2019: TV’s New Obscurities [Updated]

Yes, it’s time once more for my annual review of “new obscurities” — scripted, network TV shows that aired 13 episodes or fewer. By my count, at least 15 short-lived TV shows debuted and disappeared last year on network television. The fate of five others remains in limbo. By comparison, there were only 13 new obscurities in 2018, down considerably from 22 in 2017.

Update: A total of 19 network TV shows ran for 13 episodes are fewer in 2019.

In addition to the new obscurities listed below, the 2019-2020 television season may produce a number of one season wonders but it’s too early to tell.

  1. I’ve seen ads for three of them, but haven’t watched any. As time goes on I must have reached my quota of new shows to bother over. I watch a half-hour of news and a few PBS shows, but ads for new shows cause me to think “maybe someday I’ll watch an episode.” That someday rarely comes.

  2. Fam was cute but not stellar. Not hard to follow and prediciable. Waste of Gary Cole.

Emergence is interesting but it seems like they keep changing the storyline and premise to much. Girl was supposed to have crash landed on earth but turns out she is AI. THen reporter who was supposed to be a much racked turns out to be AI as well. Confused? So am i……..

  3. TWO-SENTENCE HORROR STORIES was a very good series–it managed to do what the most recent TWILIGHT ZONE revival was striving for, and much more deftly…it seems often the case that some of the best CW series suffer a quick death. Or even simply too-quick a death, though at least iZOMBIE had a reasonable run, as perhaps the best series they’ve offered so far.
